Other Time Away
At Specialized, we understand that life can bring unexpected events and personal circumstances that require time away from work. In addition to medical, parental, and family care leaves, we offer a variety of leave options designed to support employees through significant life events, civic responsibilities, military service, personal needs, and workplace injuries. Our goal is to provide flexibility, guidance, and resources so you can focus on what matters most while maintaining peace of mind throughout your leave journey.
Your Leave Journey, Supported Every Step of the Way
Whether you're welcoming a new child, caring for a loved one, recovering from a medical condition, or navigating another important life event, Specialized offers a variety of leave programs designed to provide time, flexibility, and peace of mind. We're proud to partner with Larkin, our dedicated leave administrator, to help guide teammates through the leave process, answer questions, and coordinate available benefits. From your first leave request through your return to work, Larkin and Specialized are here to help make your leave experience as smooth and supportive as possible.

Personal Leave (Unpaid)
If you need time away from work for personal reasons that are not covered by another leave program, you may request a Personal Leave of Absence. While employees are encouraged to use available paid time off for personal matters, unpaid personal leave may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Leaves longer than two weeks should be coordinated through Larkin and require management approval. If approved, personal leave is unpaid, and any benefit premiums that accrue during the leave will be collected upon your return to work through payroll deductions or direct payment arrangements. Because eligibility and approval are based on individual circumstances and business needs, employees should speak with their manager and your P&C Representative as early as possible when considering a personal leave request.
Additional Time Away Options
Specialized offers several other time away options to support employees during significant life events, civic responsibilities, and unexpected circumstances. Most of these can be requested directly through Workday. Eligibility, pay, and required documentation may vary by leave type and location.
Bereavement Leave – Eligible employees may take up to 5 days of paid leave following the loss of a family member, allowing time to grieve, attend services, and manage personal matters.
Jury Duty – Time away from work to fulfill your civic duty when called for jury service. Requests should be submitted through Workday.
Witness Duty – Leave for employees who are legally required to appear in court as a witness. Requests should be submitted through Workday.
Voting – Time away from work to vote when required by applicable state law. Employees should submit requests through Workday and coordinate with their manager.
Workers' Compensation Leave – Leave associated with a work-related injury or illness. Employees should report workplace injuries promptly and work with HR and Larkin to coordinate benefits and leave administration.
Military Leave
Specialized supports employees who serve in the military by providing leave for both short- and long-term military obligations in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws. Military Leave may be taken for any period of service as required by military orders. To help ease the transition during your time away, Specialized provides up to 15 business days of paid Military Leave, coordinated with any military pay you receive. Employees may also choose to use accrued paid time off during their leave, although doing so is not required. Depending on your location and circumstances, additional state benefits may be available. Employees should work with HR and Larkin to understand available benefits, pay coordination, and return-to-work requirements before beginning their leave.
California employees may be eligible for California Paid Family Leave (PFL). Any company-provided pay supplement is applied after state benefits have been taken into account.
